Assessment of the mechanical and environmental behavior of diesel engines operating with biodiesel mixtures

Biodiesel is one of the best renewable fuels to reduce dependence on petroleum derivatives. The objective this work evaluate mechanical and environmental performance in compression ignition engines with use biodiesel proportions 5 % (B5), 15 (B15), mixtures additive B5A B15A, through experimentation automotive measuring equipment, for mass application vehicles. methodology applied based development two stages; first preparation be used research corresponding diesel/biodiesel percentage each, second analysis behavior properly calibrated updated diagnostic equipment. results show that B5 mixture shows values, managing maintain power torque non-significant decreases compared diesel, averages 1.1 0.3 %, respectively. As increases, opacity value from 44.8 B15 59.3 B15A. In relation exhaust gases, most significant reduction CO2, CO, HC emissions, while NOx emissions rise slightly as concentration but statistically, it not significant.
